Beach Fun Turns To ER Run As Shark Attacks: Teen Punches, Kicks Himself Loose

A teenager is recovering from shark bites on his hand and leg as he stood in waist-deep water at a Southeast Texas beach. The 15-year-old was with a youth church group at Surfside Beach around 2:45 p.m. Monday when a shark bit him on the
left leg.

Gregg Bisso, assistant police chief with Surfside Beach, says when the teenager hit the shark with his left hand, it bit him there as well.

Bisso says the teenager, whose name was not released, sustained cuts to his leg and hand and was taken by helicopter to a Houston hospital. The boy’s injuries were not life threatening.

Officials do not know what kind of shark bit the teenager.

Surfside Beach is located about 60 miles south of Houston.
