Trailer crashes into Central Bank’s premises in Jos

There was palpable tension in Jos, the Plateau state capital, on Friday, when an articulated vehicle crashed into the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.The vehicle with registration number EPL 756 XD rammed into the CBN building in the early hours of the morning, destroying much of
its cargo.

Sources say it was initially parked by the road-side, leading to the CBN office, by the Plateau Teaching Hospital.

The driver, it was learnt was trying to manoeuvre a bend when he lost control. The steering and breaking system reportedly malfunctioned.

Although no life was lost in the incident, the trailer crashed into a Peugeot car belonging to Kanke Local Government mass transit.

The trailer had conveyed goods from its base in Lagos to be delivered to Alumetal Nigeria Ltd, a company handling the roofing work at the ongoing expansion of the CBN building.

The site Engineer of Alumetal Nigeria ltd, Musa Isiaka, said that his company would not take responsibility for the incident as the goods had not yet reached destination.

He said his team would gather the necessary information and send same to the vehicle’s company in Lagos.

“We are doing this because our company and theirs are partners in business and the goods are from us; since we are on ground, if we don’t assist, it won’t augur well,” Isiaka said.

State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Felicia Anselem, confirmed the incident, adding that the Command would further investigate the incident.
