President Goodluck Jonathan, it is now emerging, may have directed Dr. Bamanga Tukur, the Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman and other members of the party’s National Working Committee to resign. The president is said to have given that directive Monday after the Chief Pius Anyim headed presidential committee on the PDP crisis submitted to him its report in
Abuja.
Tukur and the other NWC members are expected to tender their letters of resignation Thursday at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting.
“If they fail to resign before Thursday, they will be sacked,” said a PDP source.
“Yes, it is true. I am already packing my things from my office, “said a member of NWC when asked about President Jonathan’s directive.
Another NWC member said he was signing to protect the integrity of INEC and not because of Jonathan’s directive.
The report presented to President Jonathan said PDP was drifting dangerously and there was growing need to arrest that. It outlines some actions by NWC that are deemed suppressive and redundant.
