The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos set aside the N25 million compensatory damages earlier awarded to Baba Suwe and re-affirmed the right of the NDLEA to investigate, arrest, detain and prosecute drug suspects as long as the agency acts within the law.The court also said the NDLEA had not violated Baba
Suwe rights because the agency is carrying out its statutory duties.
Lagos High court earlier awarded Baba Suwe N25 million compensatory damages over a prolonged detention by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) last year.
Now that the court of Appeal quashed the judgement of Justice Yetunde Idowu of an Ikeja High Court, Baba Suwe’s attorneys led by civil rights activist, Bamidele Aturu, has vowed to take the matter before the Supreme Court.
