A CHITUNGWIZA municipal worker escaped death by a whisker after she was stabbed on the breast with a knife by another woman in a fight over a man.
Nikita Neta (34) of Unit K was saved by her workmate Maud Isala, who plucked out the knife left stuck on
her breast after a furious Angeline Maphosa (30) attempted to cut off her breast.
The incident took place on June 17 and at around 1pm when Maphosa went to the council offices where she knocked on Neta’s room. When she was asked to come in, Maphosa asked her if they could discuss the issue privately, leading to Neta’s workmate, one Isala, leaving the room. Maphosa reportedly locked the door and accused Neta of having an affair with her husband. Trouble began when Neta tried to defend herself.
The irate Maphosa reportedly threw her two cellphones on Neta’s desk and in a fit of rage, charged towards her and floored her. Maphosa, who had already pulled out a knife from her bra, attempted to stab Neta’s face but her efforts were blocked after Neta got hold of the knife. A determined Maphosa allegedly seized the knife from Neta’s grip and stabbed her on the right breast.
Neta screamed for help and fellow workers broke the door and rescued her. Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Donald Masawi, Maphosa was not asked to plead to an attempted murder charge.
She was remanded in custody to July 1 for trial and was advised to seek bail at the High Court. Mr Lovet Muringwa prosecuted.
