What turned out to be one of the longest 72-day marriages in Hollywood history has come to an end. As of Friday (April 19), Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are officially divorced.Details inside......
The former couple reached a settlement on Friday morning, with the Brooklyn Nets player walking away with no financial gain, despite having requested $7 million from the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star, according to TMZ. Additionally, while Humphries had been seeking an annulment, citing fraud, the site's sources say he dropped that request. Previously, he had claimed that the wedding was a sham used as fodder for Kardashian's reality-show empire. During the hearing, the judge reportedly told Kim, who is pregnant with Kanye West's baby, "Congratulations on your dissolution."
Just one week ago, Kim attended a divorce hearing, but Kris was a no-show. The judge was going to fine him for missing the court date, but didn't, upon Kim's request.
Kim filed for divorce back in October 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. The move was rather surprising to her fans since she had married the basketball player less than two months before in a showy, multimillion-dollar wedding that eventually aired on the E! network. In a statement at the time, she said, "I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."
The same day that the divorce became formalized, Humphries released a statement, citing his commitment to Jay-Z's former basketball team as they head into the playoffs.
"Kris and his family are excited to move forward and are grateful for all of the support they have received in this process," the statement reads. "His commitment to the Brooklyn Nets and the team's incredible fans is his number one priority and he is excited to head into the playoffs tomorrow with this situation behind him"
In the time since the split, Kim hasn't been shy about her desire to end her marriage once and for all, especially since she started dating Yeezy. Back in January, when she announced her July due date, she told the "Today" show that she would most likely be divorced sometime this year. "It's a process. It's happening, hopefully, so I'm trying," she said.
